Kemsing's Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is at 7pm on Sunday 15th December; our specially convened festival choir will sing a number of items, and there will be a selection of well-known carols and a scheme of 9 Bible Readings. The evening rounds off with some mulled wine and a mince pie. This is a service not to miss!
This year, we have 3 crib services, all on Christmas Eve.
At 2pm, Kemsing holds Carols for Tiny Tots. As numbers have swollen at our main crib service, some families with pre-school children asked us for a smaller, quieter service that they could enjoy as a family, but that wouldn't overwhelm the younger children. There's a chance for children to put on a costume and take part, and we also sing a few carols together as we think afresh about the Christmas story.
At 3.45pm, Kemsing holds their main Crib Service. This starts in the church building, as we sing some carols and hear the Christmas story told again through a number of readings and using some props to bring the story alive. At the end of the service, we all collect a candle-lit lantern and process together to the well, in the heart of the village. This is where the large-sized crib is put up, and we sing some more carols together outside by candlelight. This service is always extremely well attended, even in snowy weather, so please come early if you want to have a seat.
At 5.30pm, Woodlands holds their crib service, Carols around the Crib. This is a simple service as we sit around the church crib, and tell the story as we build the scene up together. Refreshments are served afterwards.
At 8.00pm on Christmas Eve, there is a Communion service in Kemsing Church. This gives us the opportunity to celebrate the wonder of Christmas, the evening before, a special time for those who come. In previous years, a number have been deterred from coming by the late 11.30pm start, so we're holding the service earlier at 8pm.
There are 2 services to choose from on Christmas morning
In Kemsing at 9.30am, we have a Family Communion Service, which lasts about an hour. All are welcome as we celebrate together. If children have already opened a few presents at home, please bring one or two with them and they will have the chance to show the rest of us what they've got.
At Woodlands at 11am, there is a Communion Service to which all are welcome. We finish by midday.
