Woodlands Harvest

Woodlands always greatly enjoy their harvest festival, and this year was no exception. The church was lavishly decorated; the centrepiece of the decoration was the arrangement of fruit, vegetables and other food around the Communion table at the east end of the church. The Sunday service was packed with people, singing (amongst other songs) the harvest favourites like "We Plough the Fields and Scatter". The Bible reading was from Isaiah 5. We heard how well-tended land with a perfect climate would always produce a good crop; however, when people hear the good news of Jesus, sometimes it bears fruit in their lives, but at other times it just washes over people.

The service was followed by a harvest lunch in our recently refurbished church hall. As always, there was plenty for everyone, and lots to talk about.

We made two special donations this year. We had a special one-off collection in aid of the Sevenoaks Kenya Education Trust, a charity with which we have a long personal connection. All the donated food was sent to Deptford Reach, a day centre in South East London helping the homeless and those with other needs. The chair of trustees, Tim Child, lives near Woodlands, and came to talk about their work.
