Carol Singing enjoyed by many

Yesterday we had a new entry in Kemsing's Christmas programme - carol singing around the village. We had said that the event would be dependent on the weather; happily with storms on Saturday and Monday, there was a lull on Sunday afternoon so we were able to enjoy a beautiful sunset and then a starlit early evening for our 4-6pm slot.

We began in the Dynes. About a dozen regulars from the church (adults and children) gathered in the dining room, where about 20 of the residents were sat round tables to enjoy the carols. They were pleased to be given a carol sheet so that they could join in, and a number chose a favourite carol that we could sing. It was a good day to be there, as several of them had family visiting them before Christmas, and they were able to sing with us as well.

From there we travelled to the top of Barnfield Crescent, the bottom of Springhead Road (where we thought their Christmas lights very well done), the top of Dippers Close, outside the well, and then up to the bungalows on Church Lane. At each place, there were a few people waiting for us, and we were able to sing several carols before moving on. Neighbours opened their windows to listen, and people thanked us for setting the Christmas mood so beautifully for them.

We finished in the church hall for hot chocolate and mince pies. About 6 or so had walked the whole route, singing at each place we stopped. Another 30 had sung at one or two of our stations along the way. Thank you to everyone who joined us - we look forward seeing you at our other Christmas services. Quite a few people asked if we'd do this again next year. The answer is, ... quite possibly. We'll see!
