Our summer holiday club this year was called "Junior Heroes". We thought about Paul's teaching from Ephesians 6 on how every Christian must "put on the full armour of God", illustrated with some Old Testament stories of how God used younger people in his purposes.
During the week, the children all made their very own suit of Roman-styled armour, in the colours of their theme. We heard the stories of Samuel, David, an unnamed Israelite girl, and Josiah. We learnt Proverbs 3:5 and 6. Every day there were exciting team games, both inside and out. Needless to say, we did lots of singing too.
On the Sunday morning, the 10.30 all-age service was the climax of the week. The chruch was full of children and adults, as some of the songs from week were sung again and the suits of armour suitably shown off. We thought about Isaiah 59, and how the armour is God's armour because he's the one who wore it first. We don't rescue ourselves in life; we wear the wonderful rescue that Jesus won for us.
