Kemsing and Woodlands enjoyed celebrating Good Friday. Each church started with their own service in church - Kemsing had an all-age service, while Woodlands had a more reflective time - before meeting together at the cross on Green Hill for a joint open-air service. When the wind blew, it was cold, but otherwise the weather was kind and we had a good time together. Someone remarked afterwards that the people in Otford would probably have been able to hear us singing How Great Thou Art!
Then it was all back to Kemsing's church hall for hot cross buns, tea and coffee, and cold drinks. People always enjoy this part of the Easter weekend, as we relax together after our walk up the hill.
Finally, in the afternoon, there was a service of meditation and reflection in Kemsing church from 1.30 until 3. There were 4 short readings from the gospel accounts of the first Good Friday, followed by short meditations on Jesus arrest, trial and death as seen through the eyes of the High Priest's servants, Pilate, the crowd and the centurion. Intespersing these were times of silence, some hymns together, and some sort anthems by our church choir.
We look forward to joining again to celebrate Easter Day - with communion services in the morning (10am at Kemsing, 11.30 at Woodlands) and then our carol service at 7pm.
